Winter League Winner

Posted by on Sunday, June 10, 2018 (PST)

Congratulations to Roy on winning the Winter League.

If you came to the last match of the series having won the last three rounds, looking at finer weather, on the top lake AND still had your joker to play I’d be laying the short odds on young Rodders…….BUT, it’s always about the draw. The angry and fed up, absentee organiser of this series chose what he thought to be the best pegs on the day, including No.1 a peg that has shown good form in the past, both John Wood & Bob Smith winning, Rod only had to come in the first three of the five that fished to take it, so what happened.

Roy happened! Having only fished 3 of the last five matches, which included a win and two thirds, Roy had to win this one with his double Joker points to land the series and that’s exactly what happened, drawing 17 on the Oak Tree bank he had a good fish immediately, straight ahead and fishing all points with the most prolific area being into the roots of the Oak Tree itself, all on soft pellets, 42lbs 12ozs a cracking weight, more than the totals of all three Bottom Lake match returns. Well done Roy, who was most surprised.

Unfortunately, the organiser (John Wood) couldn’t fish (he was furious) had he done so, how things may have changed there were still three good pegs in the bag. The rest of the results are, on the day Bozzy doing well off (Joe’s favourite) peg 11 with 38:12, third was Jason putting the whip down and catching proper fish off lilies peg 8 for 20:04, and then Rod off Peg 1 with 15:12, really struggling with most of his fish coming right at the knockings, too late the rally. Finally Johnnie Oliver off 2 managed a couple of carp and bits for 12:04. Much, much better fishing, at last.

Sadly, overall a disappointing series this time, awful weather, conditions when matches had to be postponed ~ a rotten Winter really, all round, BUT we’ll go again this coming Winter starting in October.
